Why is fly fishing part of retreats and events?
Fly fishing encourages outdoor activity which has been proven to be an important part of the healing process. And learning and succeeding at a new skill helps all of us feel better about ourselves.
What if I have never fished or fly fished before?
That’s fine! We have professional fly fishing instructors on staff who will teach you everything you need to know.
Do I have to touch a fish?
No. Instructors will be there for the entire retreat and they will assist you in catching, landing and safely releasing fish.
Do I need equipment?
No. Casting Carolinas supplies everything you need for fly fishing. You will be issued waders, wading boots and a fly rod and reel to use for the weekend or the event. You will receive a message reminding you of any outdoor gear you might want to bring prior to the retreat or event.
I am still in treatment. Can I attend a retreat or event?
If your primary physician is willing to sign a medical clearance form you can attend a retreat.
I am a healthy, long-term survivor. Should I apply?
Absolutely! Casting Carolinas retreats are open to women in any stage of survivorship as long as a physician signs their medical clearance forms.
Will there be medical or nursing care at the retreat or event?
No. There are volunteer medical staff members on site throughout retreats and events. However their role is to provide support and education. They are also available to provide emergency first aid if need and to provide transportation to a hospital or urgent care if necessary.
How much does a retreat cost?
Retreats are free to first-time participants. All lodging, meals, and snacks are provided along with a full schedule of activities.
Can my family or pet attend with me?
Please leave family and pets at home. Retreats are designed to allow you time to focus on YOU without having to worry about caring for others.
What if I have special dietary needs?
Please make sure to let us know. Our retreat facilities can accommodate all special diets as long as they have advance notice.
Do I have to participate in all of the activities?
We encourage women to participate at their own pace. There is plenty of free time built into the schedule for resting, reading and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Is Carpooling available?
Speak with the staff member who contacts you. If possible, she will connect you with another participant so that you can ride together.
Will I have a roommate? Yes. You will share a room with one other participant.
