In Motion: Casting Carolina’s Fly-Fishing Retreats
For Starr Nolan, the art of fly-fishing is not only a well-loved sport, but also a vehicle for healing. “It’s a Zen pursuit,” she says, “with many opportunities to be mindful and present there in the water.” She adds, “Like the old saying, you never stand in the same river twice.” Water has the ability to nurture us physically as well as spiritually, she shares, and when we spend time fly-fishing, we inevitably learn lessons in patience. “The beginning angler seeks a big fish,” she says. “Then, they seek any fish. Eventually, you don’t need to catch a fish at all.”
